About our respondents

In total, our respondents represent estates with a combined total value of more than £1 billion, and almost 250,000 acres of land.

Individual respondents ranged from those with estates valued at less than £1 million all the way up to £100 million, while the acreage of the respondents’ estates extended from less than 100 acres to more than 15,000.

Respondents told us about the value of their assets, where their estate was located and what elements made up their estate. We also asked how they came to own their estate.

We had respondents from across the UK, but the three regions with the most responses were as follows:

Estate values/components

52% of our respondents inherited their estate, while 31% purchased it privately or through a business. 15% also have the property/land held in a trust, while the remaining respondents acquired the estate through other means.
